-About Profe Sturm-
I am a proud graduate of the Eanes school system and so happy to be a part of this wonderful community. How did I come to be a Spanish teacher? It all started back in middle school. As a 7th grader, I was lucky to find myself in Spanish class with an incredibly zealous, energetic teacher who believed in the potential of every one of her students. At first, I wasn't thrilled to be having to speak a foreign language in front of my peers, but my teacher's energy and enthusiasm was infectious and I quickly grew to love the class. Because of that transformative year, I came to appreciate not just the beauty of the Spanish language and diversity of its speakers, but also the power of a positive attitude to foster success. Later in life, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina- an experience that solidified my passion for the language. I went on to receive my B.A in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, and upon graduation, decided to travel and experience other cultures one more time. This time, I chose Asia. The next year found me in South Korea, teaching English for a year. I loved teaching, but realized I wanted to share with my students the same enthusiasm for the content that I had felt from my 7th grade teacher so many years prior. I knew that Spanish was the language I was most passionate about teaching. So, when I returned to the States, I entered the master's in Foreign Language Education program at UT and concurrently received my teacher certification through UTeach. After five years of learning from the wonderful students up in Leander ISD, I am so excited to be back in my home district, starting my first year at Westlake! When not teaching, I enjoy swimming (especially at Barton Springs), hiking, camping, reading, gardening, and expanding my knowledge of cultures through foreign films and music. |
